Metropolitan Nashville Education Association
531 Fairground Court, Nashville, TN 37211-2008
Greetings! I hope your year has gotten off to a good start despite all the confusion. I have included information on a few topics that may be of interest to you.
Representative Assembly. MNEA’s first Representative Assembly for 2018-2019 is schedule for August 20, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. at MNEA. We intend to finish by 6:15 p.m. to honor your time. I have included a tentative agenda and the minutes from our previous meeting below for your reference. Future meeting dates are included at the bottom of the agenda. Please RSVP here. Member Recruitment. Recruitment of members is key to our success. Please access the current membership form here. Remember any member can sign up a new member. If you have a potential member who is a friend of another member in your building, ask the friend to help you. We need between 1 and 3 new members from every school. We are working on updating rosters for this year and are planning on running them for those who submit an RSVP for the Rep Assembly on August 20. Evaluation Portfolios. MNEA and TEA have received many complaints related to the erroneous scoring of Pre-K and kindergarten portfolios. We know that there are nearly 300 MNPS Pre-k and K teachers who have a submission error. Please check your submission in Educopia to be sure yours is not impacted. If someone you know has an issue, please ask him/her to attend our Portfolio Grievance Seminar. Also, the state’s contract with Educopia is set to expire next week; so, if you submitted a portfolio for Pre-K, kindergarten, art, or music, download and screenshot everything you can NOW! MNEA is asking MNPS to resolve portfolio grievances locally, rather than forcing every impacted teacher to choose between accepting the portfolio score in Educopia and asking the Tennessee Department of Education to vacate the portfolio score. Stay tuned for updates! MNPS Certificated Attendance Policy. Before I arrived at the principals’ meeting in July, Sharon Pertiller shared a great deal of misinformation about the policy because she confused what she wanted the policy to be with what was adopted. We have prepared an FAQ related to the new attendance policy on our homepage. Printed copies of the MOU. Some of you should have received your print copy of the MOU by now; most have not. Mary Campbell is having TEA print the copies for her to save money; but, because TEA does not have a full-time printer operator anymore, the process is slow. Please be patient. In the meantime, you can access the MOU here.
