Candra Clariett

Candra Clariette currently teaches English at Cohn Alternative School in West Nashville. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Clariette came to Nashville to attend Tennessee State University. She is the daughter of a retired Memphis City Schools teacher and comes from a family of educators. She joined the MNEA as a non-voting member at the beginning of her term on the TEA Board of Director on July 1, 2011.  

Prior to running for the TEA New Teacher Seat on the TEA Board, Clariette served as the MNEA Association Representative from Maplewood High School. In 2010, Clariette was honored with the MNEA President’s Award as the Association Representative of the Year. She served as an MNEA delegate to the 2010 National Council of Urban Education Associations Fall Conference, the Tennessee Education Association Representative Assembly (2007-2011) and the 2011 National Education Association Annual Meeting.
She attended the 2011 NEA Southeast Regional Leadership Conference and 2011 NEA Women’s Leadership Training Program as an NEA-funded participant and has served as a member of the TEA New Teacher Committee Member (2009-2012), which she currently chairs. She also chaired the MNEA-PACE Council in 2010-2011.
