SYNOPSIS
Compensation:
- Employees will have the option of trading three (3)
professional leave days for one (1) additional day of pay at their
daily rate for professional learning activities tied to the school
improvement plan and conducted outside regular working hours. (This is an option! You may
elect to get one day of pay. If you do, three of your
professional leave days will be deducted from your accrual. If not,
all five (5) of your professional leave days will be available for
use with a substitute during the year.)
- The exception rate of pay
for optional work beyond the school day will be increased from $17.61
per hour to $25 starting July 1, 2009.
- The summer school rate
will increase to $25 starting the summer of 2010.
Professional
Learning:
- The Staff Development
Governance Council was reconfigured and updated to meet current
needs. The new name of the group will be the Professional
Learning Advisory Council.
- Clarification on the
non-evaluative role of building level instructional coaches
(numeracy coaches, literacy coaches, technology coaches, change
coaches, and consulting teachers).
- A definition of the term
“Instructional Leadership Team” or “ILT.”
- The inclusion of one member of
the Faculty Advisory Committee on the ILT.
- Deletion of the PALS Program.
Use of Stockpiled
Days:
- Revisions to the language on
planning/records days to reflect the plan for next year’s calendar.
- Clarification that
teachers must have at least half of each planning/records day for
the purpose of recording grades.
Planning Time:
- Clarification that elementary
teachers are guaranteed one hour of planning per day.
Teacher Work Day:
- Clarification that
teachers are not required to work beyond 7.5 hours.
Faculty
Advisory Committee:
- Delete three references to
“another committee representative of the faculty” when referring to
responsibilities of the FAC.
- Revisions to the election
procedure of the FAC.
Faculty
Meetings:
- A two (2) hour limit to faculty
meetings per month.
- A limit of one (1) hour for all
faculty meetings.
- A limit of four (4) faculty
meetings per month.
- A process for faculties to add
items of school-wide interest to the faculty meeting agenda.
- Faculty involvement in the
selection of the day for regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
- A prohibition on holding morning
faculty meetings on Mondays or the day after a holiday.
- A prohibition on holding
afternoon faculty meetings on Fridays or the day before a holiday.
- Clarification on how to
address concerns about faculty meetings.
Grading
Procedures:
- Deletion of an archaic reference
to attaching a grade key to the “front cover of the grade book.”
- Clarification on the
administrator at central office who is responsible for reviewing
teacher concerns about an administrative grade change.
Voluntary Transfers:
- Updating the language to
reflect the use of an electronic application process.
- A change of the transfer
application deadline to the last teacher work day of the school year
as opposed to April 15.
Administrative Slotting Procedures:
- Clarification that
administrators new to MNPS will be slotted on the Administrative Pay
Scale as if all of their verified experience were in MNPS.
Terminal Pay at Retirement:
- Clarification on payment
for unused sick leave days brought in from other districts.
- An increase from $50 to
$75 for payment of the 51st through 100th days
of sick leave paid out at death or retirement.
- An increase from $50 to
$100 for the payment of unused sick leave days above 100 paid out at
death or retirement.
Differentiated
Pay:
- The formation of a
permanent Differentiated Compensation Committee.
- A commitment to study the
possibility of adding a supplement for board certified
psychologists, social workers, and speech teachers.
- Updating of the dates for
certain stipends paid to newly assigned teachers in certain hard to
fill subject areas.
- Correction of the names of
the Praxis tests needed for certification in certain incentivized
content areas.
- A 5% supplement paid to
teachers at five “fresh started” schools (Napier, Shwab, Wharton,
McKissack Ninth Grade Academy, and John Early).
- Ten additional days of
professional development at Park Avenue, Cockrill, Bass, Pearl Cohn,
and Buena Vista.
- A commitment to study the
roles of supplemented positions.
- An increase in the Athletic
Business Manager supplements for middle school (4% with football and
2% without football).
- The establishment of a
1.5% supplement for elementary yearbook sponsors.
- A commitment to study the
possibility of stipends for team leaders, grade level chairs,
committee chairs, principal designees, SIP and SACS component
chairs, subject area chairs, small learning community chairs,
consulting teachers, presenters at faculty meetings, and IB
coordinators.
